Surname changes at marriage must be tracked precisely
Ukrainian marriage certificates record whether either spouse changed their surname at the time of marriage. The pre-marriage surname (дошлюбне прізвище) and the post-marriage surname (прізвище після шлюбу) may both appear on the document, and for spouse-petition filings USCIS needs the name history to be clear and continuous across all identity records.
A translator who overlooks or simplifies the surname-change notation creates a gap in the identity chain between the marriage certificate, birth certificate, passport, and application forms. We preserve both the pre-marriage and post-marriage surnames exactly as printed and flag any naming inconsistencies across the packet before certification.
