Registry certificates and court decisions are different documents
Ukrainian divorce records come in two primary forms: the свідоцтво про розірвання шлюбу (divorce certificate) issued by the civil registry, and the судове рішення (court decision) that grants the divorce when contested or when children are involved. The registry certificate confirms the fact and date of dissolution in a standardized format. The court decision is a multi-page legal document that may include findings of fact, property division, child custody orders, and the judge’s reasoning.
A translator who treats both document types identically or who omits the court decision’s substantive provisions creates an incomplete translation. We identify the document type first, then apply the appropriate translation approach: concise registry-format handling for certificates, and detailed legal-context translation for court decisions.
